Setting Up for Summer Success

It’s here! Summer is finally here!

I know I’m not the only one that is excited that the best season of the year is finally upon us. Warmer weather, longer days, hotter nights, beach time, camping trips, BBQs, and that all-around good feeling that this time of year brings.

I also know that summer manifests a shift for many of us - a change in routine because our kids are home from school, a shift in our approach to how we eat, how we move, how we take care of ourselves. The routines that we’ve built up over the months leading up to summer seem to start slipping, and the slope is steep. So sometimes the arrival of summer can feel like a double-edged sword; we are excited for all the fun to come, but we have some fear and worry around what it will cost our well-being.

In order to head into the season feeling strong, resilient, mindful and ready, I have some questions for you to consider. I’ve created some journaling prompts for you to mull over that will hopefully make you feel more in charge and in control of your health this summer (because spoiler alert, you are in control).

  1. What are my non-negotiable health habits that won’t be broken just because it’s summer?

  2. What health habits are usually the first to fall off that I want to be more mindful about this year?

  3. How will I protect the habits from question 5? What do I need to do differently that I haven’t done in the past?

  4. What is the minimum amount of activity/movement I can commit to each week that I will follow through with AND feel good about?

  5. Come September, how will I know that I’ve enjoyed my summer AND taken care of myself in a way I feel proud of?

And a few BONUS questions:

  1. What activities or experiences are on my bucket list for this summer? What am I really looking forward to?

  2. What new recipes do I want to try this summer?

  3. Is there an area of my life or a project that I’ve put off/neglected that I can put some energy towards this summer?

Happy Summer Solstice my friends!
